Chapter 1: The Humble Beginning—A prayer, a wish, and a chickpea
The golden fields swayed gently under the warm afternoon sun, stretching as far as the eye could see. Inside a small farmhouse at the edge of the fields, a husband and wife sat together, their voices low, their hands clasped.
“We have prayed for so many years, ˮ the husband sighed, “And yet, no child has come to bless our home despite our prayers. ˮ
His wife smiled softly, placing a hand on his, “Perhaps our prayers have already been answered in ways we cannot yet see. ˮ
The man looked at her, puzzled, “How do you mean?”
“Sometimes, ˮ she said, “we look for something grand, something obvious. But what if our blessing is waiting for us in an unexpected way?”
The husband thought for a moment before shaking his head, “Maybe you're right. But what I know for sure is that I'm hungry. Let me gather some ingredients from the farm so we can cook a meal. ˮ
His wife chuckled, “Go on, then. Pick something fresh. ˮ
So off he went, stepping out into the golden waves of chickpeas. He ran his hands through the plants, letting the pods brush against his fingers.
“Hmm… this one looks good, ˮ he muttered, reaching down to pluck a chickpea pod.
But just as he was about to take it, a tiny voice whispered through the wind.
“Please, don’t pick me just yet!”
The farmer blinked, looking around, “Who said that?”
He bent down and stared at the little chickpea inside its pod, resting among thousands of others.
“It was me, ˮ the chickpea whispered again, “I have a dream!”
The farmer chuckled, shaking his head, “A talking chickpea? And what kind of dream does a chickpea have?”
“I want to be more than just food, ˮ the chickpea said, “I want to be something that lasts, something that helps others long after I’m gone. ˮ
The farmer laughed, “A chickpea is just a chickpea! You have no idea what you’re saying. ˮ
But as he turned to leave, a breeze carried the chickpea’s words back to him, “Even the smallest seed can hold the greatest possibilities. ˮ
The farmer paused. Something about the chickpea’s words stayed with him. Maybe, just maybe, his wife was right. Maybe blessings didn’t always arrive the way we expected.
And with that thought in his heart, he walked back home leaving the tiny chickpea to begin the greatest adventure of all
